Invisible orthodontics, the most discreet transparent aligners

Embarrassment about getting braces, has it ever happened to you?

It is normal to want to have an esthetic smile even when wearing braces.

This is why invisible orthodontics is becoming increasingly popular: aligners that perform the functions of conventional orthodontics as discreetly as possible.

What is invisible orthodontics?

As you can guess from the name, invisible orthodontics consists of aligners made of a transparent material. These correct the alignment of your smile like any other type of orthodontics, but because they are completely transparent, they are very discreet.

No one will notice that you are wearing a bracelet!

When is invisible orthodontics applied?

Invisible orthodontics, like any other, is placed on the patient when some types of malocclusions, for example, need to be fixed:

  • Diastemas
  • Crowding
  • Open bite
  • Crossbite

Does this mean that anyone can wear invisible braces?

As in any situation, the dentist is the best person to decide whether you need orthodontics, whether invisible or conventional. In addition, depending on the severity of your particular case, the professional will recommend one or the other.

How does invisible orthodontics differ from conventional braces?

As mentioned above, the function is the same. But what makes them different?

Invisible orthodontics consists of a series of removable splints. Braces, on the other hand, are fixed and can only be removed by a professional.

As they are removable, or “snap-on”, they can be removed for eating and brushing teeth. This facilitates both activities, since food debris is not trapped, as it is the case with brackets, and better tooth brushing is performed.

Likewise, they do not cause mouth sores as braces do. No rubbing or snagging between the appliance and the tongue and gums.

Finally, the most notable difference is that invisible orthodontics is completely discreet. No one will notice that you are aligning your teeth, since you will be able to smile naturally from the very first moment.

How does invisible orthodontics work?

As we have already mentioned, invisible orthodontics consists of a series of transparent splints.

The planning of these splints is done completely digitally, which improves the accuracy and efficiency of the treatment.

Once all the movements that the splints will perform on your teeth have been designed, the first splint is placed.

These are changed several times throughout the treatment. It will be the dentist who will specify how often you have to go for a check-up to change the splint.

It is important that you wear the splints as long as possible. It is recommended that they be worn at least 22 hours a day and only be removed for eating and brushing teeth.

If the patient is not consistent with this and does not wear the clear aligners long enough, it is very likely that the movements that are programmed will not be performed completely. This has its consequences: the next splint will not fit in the mouth and the treatment will be longer.

How long does the treatment last?

Invisible orthodontic treatment does not have a specific duration, since it depends on each particular case.

It is true that, generally, treatment with invisible orthodontics is shorter than with conventional orthodontics or braces, and usually lasts between 12 and 18 months, approximately. However, time will decide and will be determined by the orthodontist.
