A beautiful and harmonious smile is in high demand, just like invisible orthodontic treatments.
Having a properly aligned set of teeth not only provides a healthier appearance, but also increases our self-confidence.
Even in adulthood, it is one of the most sought-after orthodontic treatments for adults who want to improve the appearance of their teeth.
Dental orthodontics is no longer exclusive to children and teenagers.
Next, we will explain what invisible orthodontic treatments consist of and how they differ from others.
What is invisible orthodontics?
Orthodontics encompasses all dental movements aimed at correcting the alignment and malocclusions of the mouth.
To alleviate the aesthetic and sometimes uncomfortable consequences of traditional orthodontics, invisible orthodontics has been developed, whose advantages go beyond the aesthetic aspect.
Dental position is corrected with small movements that are gradually made, both dental pieces and maxillary bones are placed in the correct position.
Thanks to dental appliances, a more aesthetic and functional smile is achieved.
Therefore, orthodontics reduces the risk of back pain, headaches, ear discomfort, jaw discomfort, and other bite problems such as bruxism. It also improves oral hygiene, reducing the risk of developing cavities.
Similarly, it decreases the risk of developing periodontal diseases, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.
Invisible orthodontic treatments achieve these goals with the advantage that nobody will notice that you are wearing them.
If you want a beautiful and functional smile, but think that traditional dental appliances will interfere with your image, a good option for you is invisible orthodontics.
Clear aligners
Invisible orthodontics consists of custom-made transparent aligners for the patient’s mouth.
Unlike traditional systems, they are almost imperceptible, comfortable, and do not require bracket cementing.
Invisible orthodontics is removable, so you can take them off whenever you want, to eat or brush your teeth, for example.
Depending on the patient’s characteristics, the aligners are changed approximately every two weeks until the treatment is completed. This way, the teeth will be in constant movement until they reach the desired position.
Invisible Orthodontics
As we clarified earlier, the objective of orthodontic treatments is to correct any type of malocclusion problem.
Every orthodontic treatment is divided into different phases, with the first one being essential to achieve the desired result:
1. Previous bucodental study
Before starting the treatment, we will carry out a study using the latest technology.
This study consists of a series of diagnostic tests that will be analyzed to obtain a comprehensive diagnosis to elaborate a personalized treatment plan.
Clear aligners
Invisible orthodontics consists of transparent custom-made aligners that fit the patient’s mouth.
Unlike traditional systems, they are almost imperceptible, comfortable, and do not require the cementing of brackets.
Clear aligners are removable, you can take them out whenever you want, for eating or brushing your teeth, for example.
Depending on the patient’s characteristics, the aligners are changed approximately every two weeks until the treatment is completed. This way, the teeth are continuously moved until they reach the desired position.
Invisible Orthodontics
As we clarified before, the objective of orthodontic treatments is to correct any type of malocclusion problem.
Every orthodontic treatment is divided into different phases, with the first one being an essential part to achieve the desired result:
1. Prior Buccodental Study
Before starting the treatment, we will perform a study, always with the latest technology.
This study consists of a series of diagnostic tests that will be analyzed to obtain a comprehensive diagnosis with which to develop a personalized treatment plan.
2. Informing the Patient about Treatment Details
In the next visit, we show the patient the results of ClinCheck and explain in detail the treatment to be followed. Here, the patient will see how the final result of the treatment will look before starting.
The clear removable aligners of invisible orthodontics are custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth. Therefore, it is essential to have prior mouth records. In our case, we scan the patient with the iTero scanner.
3. First Aligners and Placement of Attachments
In this phase, we deliver the first aligners to the patient. Then we place the attachments that are necessary according to the study performed in the first phase. We also explain how to place the aligners, their cleaning, and general use.
4. Periodic Replacement of Aligners
From here on, approximately every two weeks, we will change the new aligners that will adjust to the new position of the teeth. We will also check the correct evolution of the treatment.
5. Refinement actions
Once the treatment is finished, the refinement phase begins. At this point, the orthodontist evaluates the state of the mouth and the position of the teeth.
6. Retention
Finally, we will place the retention bars. These are necessary so that the teeth do not return to their original position.
The retainer bars are wires that are placed on the inside of the teeth.
